THESE INSTRUCTIONS NO LONGER WORK AS OF LATE OCTOBER 2022.
Security changes made by Microsoft and Google have created a mismatch in the encryption levels supported, and have made it impossible to pull Microsoft365 email into Google Gmail.
Log into Gmail, and from the main screen, click the cog (settings) icon in the upper right-hand corner of the screen. From the Settings drop-down, choose SEE ALL SETTINGSOn the main SETTINGS window, choose ACCOUNTS AND IMPORT from the top menu items.Beside CHECK MAIL FROM OTHER ACCOUNTS choose ADD A MAIL ACCOUNTIn the ADD A MAIL ACCOUNT window that pops up, enter your SSA email address, and click NEXT.Because SSA's Microsoft365 email does not support Google's Gmailify tool, your only choice will be to IMPORT FROM MY OTHER ACCOUNT (POP3). Click NEXT.On the next screen, fill in the form as indicated here:USERNAME: enter your full SSA email addressPASSWORD: enter your SSA network/email passwordPOP SERVER: enter the server name outlook.office365.comPORT: 995
Ensure the following boxes are selected:Leave a copy of retrieved messages on the serverAlways use a secure connection (SSL)Label incoming messages... you may leave the label as suggested, or create a whole new label (to identify the messages coming from your SSA account)
Answer NO to the question about being able to send mail as your student account.Click FINISHTHIS METHOD WILL ONLY MOVE EMAIL FROM THE ROOT OF INBOX. If there are folders and sub-folders created inside your SSA Inbox, login to your SSA email at http://mail.shadysideacademy.org and move messages from any subfolders directly to INBOX. As additional messages arrive in the INBOX folder, those will be delivered to the Gmail account. The desired folder structure can be replicated manually in Gmail by using labels.Check the status of the email transfer on the Gmail Settings "Accounts and Import" section.
